Winter White - How to Get it Right

There is nothing more classy and refreshing than donning white in the winter and standing out amongst the sea of dark colors. However, as with all things fashion, winter white has to be done right. Not all shades of white are suitable and not all styles are created equal.

With this in mind, I have to comment on Miss Carrie Underwood's Super Bowl outfit she wore to sing the National Anthem. Since the Super Bowl broadcast is kind of a big deal, and over 106 million viewers tuned in this year for the big game, you would think that Carrie and Team Underwood might put a little more thought into what she wears.

Head to toe stark white with silver chains? I'm sorry but I just cannot get into it. I was really surprised seeing as she usually looks great. I don't know who was responsible for this getup but they must be trying to sabotage her.

When it comes to pulling off winter white, it is all about finding the right piece. Here are a few that I've come across:

Free People "ebb and flow" striped jacket
$108 at bloomingdales.com
This super cute zip up jacket by Free People will keep you warm in those in between months and can be worn with a simple top and jeans for a casual look.

Another lightweight option is this cardigan by Banana Republic. I practically live in my long cardis since I can pair them with leggings and a scarf for those "cold in the morning warm in the afternoon" days that L.A. is so fond of.

Banana Republic
heritage mesh trim cardigan $59.50

This white blazer by Plastic Island is perfect for an office day or going out to play. I love how crisp it looks when paired with all black.

Plastic Island Leighton Blazer
$198 at revolveclothing.com

For those colder days these Joe's taupe leggings are awesome and would look great with any type of boot. You also can't go wrong with a classic wool coat in winter white like this one from BCBG. If you're feeling really into it, you can even pair them together since the colors are distinct enough.
The Legging by Joe's with side zipper
$88 at bloomingdales.com
Wool coat with waist tie by BCBG
on sale for $249 at bcbg.com

So since Punksatony Phil saw his shadow, go ahead and bring some white into these last weeks of winter. It'll put you in the mood for the warm days that are slowly approaching.

Dress on!
Lisa
